The Warehouse Racking Safety Inspection Checklist

Racking is a structural system, and like any structure it degrades. Most serious rack collapses start with an unreported bent upright. A disciplined inspection routine is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy.
Daily (operator-led)
- Report any struck upright, beam or brace immediately — do not wait for the formal check.
- Confirm loads are within the beam load notices posted on the rack.
Monthly (supervisor walk)
- Check uprights for dents, twists and baseplate damage.
- Verify beam safety locks are engaged.
- Look for pallets overhanging or improperly seated.
Annual (qualified inspector)
- Full structural assessment against RMI / FEM / AS4084.
- Anchoring torque check and floor condition review.
- Document and rate damage using a red/amber/green system.
Damage rating at a glance
Green — monitor. Amber — repair within the stated window. Red — unload and isolate the bay immediately.
